New Moon - Stephanie Meyer
This book was a fucking slog. I cannot begin to explain how useless this book is to me. EDWARD WAS GONE THE WHOLE FUCKING BOOK. Whyyyyyy introduce him if you planned on ripping him away for a whole goddamned book? Bella is a rat for using Jacob as a pseudo boyfriend while he was away. HE'S 16 YEARS OLD MIND YOU. It literally only picked up once Alice showed back up and they had to go save Edward's dramatic ass. I literally had to put the series down until 2026 bc I was so mad

Twilight - Stephanie Meyer
This book needs no introduction. I feel like I am late to the party here! I thought this book was going to be a struggle to get through, I thought I wasn't going to be into it because historically, I am not into vampires. I WAS SO WRONG. Edward and Bella are so weird with each other, the eternal cravings for each other, the yearning, the instant love, something about this book took over my whole being for a while. Is it a little juvenile? Yes. But I am incredibly good at goi

Slewfoot - Brom
Slewfoot starts with a young puritan couple trying to make ends meet on their farm. Not too far off, an otherworldly God has awoken to destroy humanity. After a series of unfortunate events, Abitha and this Slewfoot join together to right some wrongs, and wrong some rights. This book's plot is to constantly beat Abitha down and while I understood the rage felt at the end of the book, I don't appreciate the method to get Abitha her elemental powers. Throughout this book it is

Animal Farm - George Orwell
George Orwell is fantastic at taking real life political climates and creating a story that exudes the issues at hand without directly speaking on the climate itself. This book was 94 pages and for all 94 pages I was having a whole internal conniption because the plot is so similar to the issues at hand in The United States circa 2025. I wanted to vomit this book made me so uncomfortable in a good way. 5 Stars

Lucky Day - Chuck Tingle
OH BOY. Let me tell you, this book starts off with a bang!! The Low Probability Event that happens within this book was absurd and genuinely so fun to read. This book centers around our main character, Vera, who is a professor on the topic of probability. She ends up on a wild adventure trying to track down where these insane events are stemming from and along the way discovers herself again. This book is a horror book in the way that if this stuff actually did happen, it wou

Future Boy: Back to the Future and My Journey Through the Space-Time Continuum - Michael J. Fox
This book was a memoir written by Michael J. Fox, recounting his memories from filming season 3 of Family Ties and Back to the Future at the same time. I listened to the audio book version and it was really cool to listen to him speak so fondly on this time in his life. He was incredibly grateful for the long days, while they were grueling, he enjoyed his time on both sets. He told about the animosity on set originally since the former Marty McFly was canned, talked about his

1984 - George Orwell
You can see why Orwell is considered one of the greats. Despite being written almost eighty years ago, Orwell's message is applicable in today's climate which makes the story all the more chilling. 5/5 Stars

The Eyes are the Best Part - Monika Kim
Gory, manipulative, and thrilling. Just the right amount of unreliable narration to make you squirm. I will be reading more of Kim's work in the future. 5/5 Stars

Saturday Night Ghost Club - Craig Davidson
Quick read, but fun. Well-written with a bittersweet ending. Was a good palate cleanser with its themes of love, family bonds, and loss. 3.5/5 Stars

The Hunger Games Trilogy - Suzanne Collins
I chose to rate this as a trilogy because it was too much to rate individually. The original three novels in this universe are absolute juggernauts of young adult fiction/dystopian literature. I reread these books to prepare for Sunrise on the Reaping, but also to see how well they have held up over time. These books are still as emotionally raw and well-written as I remember. The only thing that brought this series from being a 5/5 to a 4.5/5 was that as Katniss progresses i

The Duke and I - Julia Quinn
Where to start? This book is the first of the Bridgerton series and quite frankly, its wasn't as bad as I anticipated. I remembered not loving their love story in the tv series so it makes sense that I didn't prefer the book much. It was an incredibly slow book but I'm not gonna dog the book for that because courting was a very slow process in ye olden days so I get it. But also 3 chapters of them talking in a hallway alone without being caught is insane. Daphne was pretty bo

Tender is the Flesh - Agustina Bazterrica
I almost forgot I read this book bc I needed to get it out of my head the moment I read it. This book is good. Let me get that part known. The story is written incredibly well, I am beyond shocked about how quickly I was able to read this book. This book is also nasty as fuck. This book is about consuming humans like cattle due to a disease that infected all animals. The main character runs a processing plant for "head" (Human meat). Throughout the book you are taken through

Monstrilio - Gerardo Sámano Córdova
This book is a DNF. I was under the impression that this book would be a story about a monster made from the lung of a couple's dead son. I was under the impression that the monster would remain a monster. Not turn into a boy, filling the void of the once dead child. This story was told from 4 different perspectives and all of them that I got through were insanely boring. Also they all have kinky sex for no reason? Doesn't move the plot forward at all. Spoiler: the moment the

The House of My Mother - Shari Franke
This was a difficult book to read, knowing about the Ruby Franke case. It was sobering and heartbreaking to see Shari fight so hard to free her younger siblings, struggle with her self-worth, and be abused by trusted adults inside and outside her family. But ultimately, this is a story of healing and forgiveness and resilience. Highly recommend! 5/5 Stars

Episode Thirteen - Craig DiLouie
Boo! Booo! If I could throw tomatoes at a book and crown it for worst of the year, it would be this book. Which is such a shame because the first half of this book is EXACTLY what I wanted and hoped for and more. Tension up to the first ghostly encounter was chilling and exciting, and then the book gets lost in its own attempt at being complex and unique, that instead of focusing on the amazing atmosphere, haunted house, and paranormal entity; it switches to a whole new story

Our Winter Monster - Dennis A. Mahoney
Characters are one-dimensional and the plot twists are telegraphed from the first few chapters, but the story otherwise is incredibly fun to read. There's a lot of focus and metaphors on working through trauma, which leads to a cliché ending. And despite these many flaws and gripes about the book that I've seen so many reviews on, I still had so much fun reading this book. Mahoney knows how to hook you on a story even if you don't want to be, very enjoyable! 3.75 to 4/5 Stars

The Glutton - A.K. Blakemore
Unnerving and weird, but in a good way. While not completely historically accurate, the ending did chill me to the core. The writing was descriptive and made my skin crawl frequently. It made me hate Tarare for his vulgarity, while also humanizing this cannibalistic social outcast. 4/5 Stars

Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery - Brom
One of my favorite books of the year, with a rich historical setting and fleshed-out characters with believable flaws and well-written humanity. Each character possesses both good and bad qualities, and most of the book explores the dichotomy of good and evil. The book has a strong narrative with good storytelling, but the ending left me mildly dissatisfied, and it felt like it reduced a lot of amazing build-up and character development to singular traits, which threw out the
