This book is devastating. You get to know all the people who made the trek up the mountain, their plans and dreams after Everest and then you learn the true nature of the mountain. I will never climb a mountain myself, but this book has instilled in me respect for those that do.

I can't help but feel sorry for the friends and family of those who perished nearly 30 years ago, but I also feel immense sadness for the Sherpa people. No one would be able to climb the mountain without them and they hold 1/3 of the casualties on Everest.
It took me a long while to get through this book, my 2nd attempt reading it for good reason. While the book is technical as all get out, its necessary to understand the full truth of the story. This book is profound, and I imagine I will never get Mt. Everest out of my conscience.
5 stars for the book, but also for those who lost their lives. Your efforts were not for nothing.
