I found the book to be a bit slow. Having to remember all of the different levels in this 'religion' took a bit of getting used to but, once I remembered them all, it was easy to continue. Most of the beginning, for me, was spent wondering why I was following this girl and what the point was.
The story then took a turn in the dystopian direction. We learn more about our protagonist and her internal struggles with watching her recall her past and recollect who she really is and how she got to this convent. I would have loved to know more about our protagonist. I feel like there was so much more we could have learned about her and the Sacred Sisterhood. Like, where the hell did this convent come from? And was the point of it to breed children for this weirdo who ran it? If so, why? What the hell were they doing with the babies after they were born?
I also felt like there could have been more in the FMC and her sexuality. I do appreciate that the story didn't come out and tell you anything and was good at showing. But, I just wanted mooooore.
Overall, I did enjoy seeing the main character grow and change by the end. She was no longer doing things for her own gain but rather for the gain of others, even those she disliked in the beginning.
