George Orwell is fantastic at taking real life political climates and creating a story that exudes the issues at hand without directly speaking on the climate itself. This book was 94 pages and for all 94 pages I was having a whole internal conniption because the plot is so similar to the issues at hand in The United States circa 2025. I listened to the audio book version and it was really cool to listen to him speak so fondly on this time in his life. I chose to rate this as a trilogy because it was too much to rate individually. The original three novels in this universe are absolute juggernauts of young adult fiction/dystopian literature. This was a difficult book to read, knowing about the Ruby Franke case. It was sobering and heartbreaking to see Shari fight so hard to free her younger siblings, struggle with her self-worth, and be abused by trusted adults inside and outside her family. But ultimately, this is a story of healing and forgiveness and resilience. Highly recommend! 5/5 Stars
