Episode Thirteen - Craig DiLouie
Boo! Booo! If I could throw tomatoes at a book and crown it for worst of the year, it would be this book. Which is such a shame because the first half of this book is EXACTLY what I wanted and hoped for and more. Tension up to the first ghostly encounter was chilling and exciting, and then the book gets lost in its own attempt at being complex and unique, that instead of focusing on the amazing atmosphere, haunted house, and paranormal entity; it switches to a whole new story

Our Winter Monster - Dennis A. Mahoney
Characters are one-dimensional and the plot twists are telegraphed from the first few chapters, but the story otherwise is incredibly fun to read. There's a lot of focus and metaphors on working through trauma, which leads to a cliché ending. And despite these many flaws and gripes about the book that I've seen so many reviews on, I still had so much fun reading this book. Mahoney knows how to hook you on a story even if you don't want to be, very enjoyable! 3.75 to 4/5 Stars

The Glutton - A.K. Blakemore
Unnerving and weird, but in a good way. While not completely historically accurate, the ending did chill me to the core. The writing was descriptive and made my skin crawl frequently. It made me hate Tarare for his vulgarity, while also humanizing this cannibalistic social outcast. 4/5 Stars

Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery - Brom
One of my favorite books of the year, with a rich historical setting and fleshed-out characters with believable flaws and well-written humanity. Each character possesses both good and bad qualities, and most of the book explores the dichotomy of good and evil. The book has a strong narrative with good storytelling, but the ending left me mildly dissatisfied, and it felt like it reduced a lot of amazing build-up and character development to singular traits, which threw out the
