One of my favorite books of the year, with a rich historical setting and fleshed-out characters with believable flaws and well-written humanity. Each character possesses both good and bad qualities, and most of the book explores the dichotomy of good and evil. The book has a strong narrative with good storytelling, but the ending left me mildly dissatisfied, and it felt like it reduced a lot of amazing build-up and character development to singular traits, which threw out the well-crafted themes of balancing good and evil.
