this book had SO MUCH potential. women who are half human half mushroom?? insane! the story fell a bit flat for me, though, unfortunately. we're put in this society where women are 'born' to be wed to specific men, having the face of that mans first wife. how does this happen? well, we learn it... but it doesn't feel as if it truly impacts nicole, our fmc, very hard. i wish i could have seen more emotion from her as she learns the truth. but all she wants to do is let her mushroom counterparts devour others. i KNOW she has emotion. she felt it when she lost her mother. she's consistently angry over other things throughout the book. but i feel like, where it could be most impactful, she shows nothing.

i would have also loved to see more of nicole and teaghans relationship. and to learn how teaghan became truly pregnant. i loved getting to see nicole take back the power by the end but i would have loved for the truth to be more hard hitting. nicole spent a ton of time alone. there was so much possibility with that.
